The WA opposition leader says Treasurer Ben Wyatt must take responsibility for his own actions after the Labor government tried to blame their predecessors for any future downgrading of the state's credit rating.
WA Opposition Leader Mike Nahan told reporters on Monday that Mr Wyatt must "stop governing by looking in the rear-view mirror".
"If there's a credit rating risk it's because of the decisions made by the McGowan government and specifically the treasurer Ben Wyatt," he said.
"He's talking up the risks and trying to blame the previous government when it's actually all about his own budget."
Dr Nahan said he would hate to see Mr Wyatt manipulate a credit rating downgrade for political purposes, but trusted that was not the case.
"If he's just playing politics on a credit rating, that's no way to run a state," he said.
Mr Wyatt last week in parliament was visibly angry as he pointed his index finger and shouted at Dr Nahan after the Liberals voted to block Labor's gold royalty hike.
"If there's any credit rating downgrade, leader of the opposition, I'll be coming to you and wrapping that around your neck because you are responsible for any downgrade," Mr Wyatt said.
